Victoria Wiswall Betts, a daughter of Archdeacon and Mrs. Darby Wood Betts of Santa Rosa, Calif., Wellesley, Mass., and Castine, Me., was married at Trinity Episcopal Chapel in Castine yesterday to Friedrich Mariacher, a son of Mrs. Hans Johann Mariacher of Mayrhofen, Austria, and the late Mr. Mariacher. The bride’s father, who is retired from the Episcopal Diocese of California, performed the ceremony.

Mrs. Mariacher, a graduate of the Anna Head School in Oakland, Calif., and the University of California at Berkeley, expects to receive a master’s degree in international studies from Lesley College next June. Her father, a former Canon of the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York, also served as Dean of St. John’s Cathedral in Providence, R.I. Her mother, Elaine Wiswall Betts, is headmistress of the Dana Hall School in Wellesley. The bride is a granddaughter of Mrs. Frank L. Wiswall of Castine, whose late husband was a lawyer and a New York State Senator.

Mr. Mariacher, an executive chef for the Royal Viking Line, was formerly with the Grand Hotel in Stockholm and Maxim’s in Paris. He graduated from the Berufschule fur das Gastgewerbe in Absam, Tirol, and received a diploma from Kammer der Gewerblichen Wirtschaft in Innsbruck, Austria.

When Josephine Husing, a young married woman, died suddenly at No. 79 Debevoise Street, Brooklyn, Friday afternoon, it was reported that death was caused by apoplexy.

Coroner Hesse became satisfied that some mystery was attached to the death. He ordered Dr. Valentine to hold an autopsy which resulted of the discovery of Paris Green in the stomach. Mrs. Husing’s husband and family were dumbfounded when told of the result of the autopsy. They stated that Mrs. Husing had been in low spirits for some time and are convinced that she took the poison with intent to commit suicide.

Jacob Husing, the husband of the dead woman, had been out of work for many months and is thought that that fact and the debts which she had been obliged to contract for food and clothes so preyed on Mrs. Husing’s as to cause her to take her own life.

Her parents were born in Pennsylvania but were of Scotch lineage. They came hither when she was young, and at first lived on a farm in Nachiusa Township. Later the father purchased a farm in Nelson Township, to which he removed his family and here he died in 1884 at the age of three-score years and ten. Religiously, he was a Presbyterian and, politically, he was a Democrat. Mrs. Harden was fourteen years old when the family came to this State, and she remained one of the parental household until her marriage. She died here in the home in whose upbuilding she had assisted her husband, December 3, 1889, at the age of thirty~ eight, and was mourned far beyond the home circle, as she was a woman of rare merit, of a sweet and wholesome nature, and all who came under her influence found her to be kind and true. By her death the Lutheran Church lost one of its most esteemed members. She was a devoted wife and fond mother, and her happy marriage with our subject that was saddened only by her death, was blessed to them by three children: Eva J., at home with her father; William J., and Lawrence D., who is being reared by an aunt.
